MONTE VISTA—The opportunity for a comprehensive health check in a convenient setting is just around the corner.
On April 5 and 6 at Ski Hi in Monte Vista several free and low-cost health screenings will be offered for people to keep their health in check. They encourage San Luis Valley residents and visitors to rally their family, friends and neighbors to own their health.
The screenings and the “ask your pharmacist booth” address today’s most critical health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, mental health and more.
The 9Health Fair Offers a $30 Blood Chemistry Screening which gives individuals information on their blood sugar (glucose), cholesterol, triglycerides, liver, kidney, bone and muscle function and may show warning signs of diabetes, heart disease and other concerns. Other low-cost screenings include a $25 Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screening for men, which checks for prostate gland issues and cancer, a $15 Blood Count screening, which checks the health of blood, a $40 Vitamin D screening, which measures baseline Vitamin D level, a $25 Hemoglobin A1C screening that gives an average blood sugar level over the past two to three months, and a $20 Colon Cancer Screening Take Home Kit, which checks for colon cancer. Free screenings such as blood pressure, breast exams, prostate/testicular, ask a medical question, ask a pharmacist, osteoporosis, oral, hearing, foot, skin and more are offered at specific locations, as well.
In preparation to attend a 9Health Fair people should be sure to drink plenty of water, fast for 12 hours if they plan to have their blood drawn (unless they are diabetic), and continue taking prescribed medication. Drinking plenty of water the night before and morning of the 9Health Fair is really the best way to prevent any issues during the blood draw experience. (Please bring a bottle of water to help limit plastic one-time use bottles. Also, if possible, please bring a can of food for the Monte Vista food pantry.)
There are two ways in which people may receive their personal results, depending on whether they registered in advance of the fair using the online registration tool or if they registered at the fair by filling out the participant form. On-line registration is available at www.9healthfair.org. (This allows individuals to pay by credit card. Log into a secure account with the username and password created during the registration process. If they registered for the 9Health Fair by filling out a participant registration form at the fair, they will receive their results via mail to the address they provided on the registration form within four weeks of attending the 9Health Fair.
