Valley children will participate in the Optimist Tri-Star Basketball Skills District Championship this Saturday.
ALAMOSA The Alamosa Optimist Club is proud to announce that 23 San Luis Valley youth will be competing at the Colorado/Wyoming Optimist Tri-Star Basketball Skills District Championship on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Each will be judged on their shooting, passing and dribbling skills.
In January, more than 90 boys and girls from across the Valley competed locally against youth of their own age in six age groups, 8 thru 13, for a chance to compete in the southern regional competition, which was held on March 9th in Pueblo.
Of those who competed locally, 36 Valley youth advanced to the regional competition, and 23 qualified to compete in Denver by finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their specific age and gender division.
There they will compete against other qualifiers from throughout Colorado and Wyoming.

Winners at the District Championship will be announced that evening on the Pepsi Center main floor before the Denver Nuggets game against the Sacramento Kings.
