ALAMOSA—Harold L. “Pat” Andrews passed away Jan. 11, 2013 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center. Pat was born Dec. 23, 1925 to Charles Wilson and Mary Cordelia “Delia” (Godfrey) Andrews in Stratton, Colo. Pat’s family relocated to the Waverly area in the San Luis Valley in 1938 to farm as a result of the Dust Bowl on the eastern plains.
On Jan. 31, 1950 Pat married Irene (Bond) Andrews from the Bowen area enjoying a 43-year marriage until her death. The two made their life in Alamosa where they raised four children. Pat worked for Rio Grande Motorway Trucking for 36 years as a serviceman. He was a member of the Bowen Community United Methodist Church, Alamosa Senior Citizens, and Alamosa Elk’s Lodge.
Pat enjoyed Colorado’s beautiful mountains through hiking, four-wheel drives, fishing, hunting, or relaxing at the family cabin in Platoro. He loved being with family, taking long walks or drives, going to the Senior Citizen’s, and watching the deer out his front window. He will be remembered by his family as a gentle loving giant of a man with a quiet demeanor and sense of humor who taught his family the importance of family, faith and church, hard work, good character, and patriotism passing along a love and respect for the mountains and nature.
Pat is survived by his children Herry (Shelly) Andrews of Cheyenne, Wyo., Gary (Sandy) Andrews of Grand Junction, Linda (Jim) Dollerschell of Grand Junction, and Donna Andrews of Monte Vista; grandchildren Harmony (Jason) Myers of Golden, Jenny (Rich) Sjogren of Golden, Matt Woods and Ryan Woods of Longview, Texas, Kaylee Dollerschell of Fort Collins, Kasey Dollerschell of Grand Junction, and Marissa McIntosh of Monte Vista; great grand children Logan and Kadence Myers, Cole and Malika Sjogren, and Julien Martinez; and loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter Marie Andrews, brothers Charles and Bob Andrews, and sisters Vestal and Norma Jean Andrews and Ima (Andrews) Hutton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Rogers Family Mortuary Chapel in Alamosa and a viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 15. Interment will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bowen Community United Methodist Church through the funeral home office.
