BRUSH, Colorado — Pauline Eklund, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center following a short illness.
She was born Nov. 13, 1923, to Roy & Clara Cummins in Cook County, Texas, about 80 miles North of Dallas.
As a young girl, Pauline helped her father on the farm. In 1937, the Cummins family moved to a farm near Lubbock, Texas. It was there that she met her future husband, Erik Eklund. They were married on Dec. 14, 1941. In 1954, the Eklund family moved to the San Luis Valley near Mosca and Hooper to a small farm where they raised sheep and alfalfa hay.
Pauline had lived in the Brush community since 2001. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband; one son, Dennis; two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Dwayne Eklund of Brush; one sister, three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the San Luis Valley Cemetery at Monte Vista.
Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush from 2:30-4 p.m. Wednesday. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Dennis Eklund Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Heer Mortuary in Brush.
