ASU professor killed in accident

NEW MEXICO— Details are pending regarding a fatal weekend vehicle accident that claimed the life of Adams State University Professor Dr. Stuart Hilwig.

Dr. Hilwig was killed and his two young children injured in an accident in northern New Mexico.

His wife, Dr. Stephanie Hilwig, Adams State associate professor of sociology, was not in the vehicle.

Adams State President David Svaldi said, “Our deepest sympathies go out to Dr. Stephanie Hilwig and Stuart’s entire family, as well as our students and colleagues who are grieving.”

Hilwig graduated with a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1991 and a Ph.D. in history from Ohio State University in 2000. He was raised in Allentown, Penn. He joined the Adams State faculty in 2000.
