TATUM, N.M. — Scott Willis Surber, 43, of Tatum died at 9:26 a.m. Oct. 2, 2012
Scott was born June 4, 1969 in Salida, Colo.
He was a 1987 graduate of Sangre De Cristo high school in Mosca, Colo.
Scott was sheriff's deputy in Chaffee County, Colo. He was a volunteer firefighter for Poncha Springs, Colo. and a corrections officer in Lovington, N.M.
He enjoyed cooking for friends and family, hunting, video games, bowling and Facebook.
His grandparents, Frank and June Surber and Wilbur and Inez Wells, and sister, Gina (Surber) Curtis, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Tami Surber, of Tatum; parents Willis and Jane Surber of Salida Colo.; brothers, Keith (Darlene) Surber of Salida, Kevin (Robin) Surber of Cañon City, Colo., Leonard (Brandy) Surber of Panama, Fla., Allen (Katie) Surber, Salida and Mario Surber, Salida; sisters, Terry (Steve) Hamilton, Monte Vista, Colo., Gale (Vince) Martinez, Salida, Patti Sloan, Salida and Danielle (Trey) of Elk Heart, Texas.
A celebration of Scott’s life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Salida Elks lodge on E Street and 2nd in Salida.
