Busy weekend for Valley teams

SAN LUIS VALLEY — The San Luis Valley was buzzing with sporting events that sounded all over the state of Colorado on Saturday.
Below is a recap of some of the prep action from this past weekend
Football
Centauri 7, Paonia 6
LA JARA — The Centauri Falcons and Paonia Eagles played a defensive battle on Saturday at Centauri High School, w i t h t h e Falcons taking a 7-6 victory on a first quarter 19-yard touchdown reception from wide receiver Mitchell Wilson.
The defense for both teams domi nated until the fourth quarter, where the Eagles found the end zone for a 14-yard rushing touchdown.
The Falcons, who improve their season record to 2-1 , will be back in action Saturday when they face the Lake County Panthers from Leadville.
The Panthers, who lost to the Center Vikings 27-14 on Friday night, are 0-3 on the season.
Sanford 66, Mancos 30
S A N F O R D — L i k e several of the other San Luis Valley teams, the Sanford indians made quick work of the Mancos Blue Jays as they defeated them 66-30 on Saturday.
The Indians, who are now 2-1 on the season, will play next when they travel to La Veta for a A-8 West - Mountain Division contest on Friday.
The Redskins, who are coming off a 44-6 non-league loss to Caliche, are 0-2 on the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

BLANCA — The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds defeated the Sierra Grande Panthers in Southern Peaks League action early Saturday morning in three straight sets. The Thunderbirds won with set scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-18.
The Panthers were led by Kendra Holtcamp, Brianna Archuleta and Brooke Lucero, who each had three kills during the contest.

BLANCA— T h e L a d y Panthers rebounded with a win in the afternoon on Saturday as they defeated t h e M a n z a n o l a L a d y Bobcats in three straight sets. The set scores were 25-14 , 25-20 and 25-7 .
Out of 28 team kills, senior Brianna Archuleta tallied 12 of them while the next closest player w a s Kendra Holtcamp with six.
Brooke Lucero and Holtcamp each had three aces.
With the win, the Panthers improved their season score to 7-2 and will be back in action Tuesday when they host Centennial.

Custer County
BLANCA — The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds completed a 2-win day on Saturday as they defeated the Custer Country Bobcats on a neutral court at Sierra Grande High School on Saturday. The 3-set win for the Thunderbirds were won with set scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-18 .
The Thunderbirds, who are now 8-1 on the season, will play at Monte Vista on Tuesday.
