Grab a heaping helping of rural lifestyle
RIO GRANDE COUNTY — The San Luis Valley Antique Iron Club will offer a slice of farm life July 7-8 with its 15th annual Farm and Ranch Heritage Days.
Competing at their own track just east of the Del Monte Gun Club between Monte Vista and Alamosa, club members will pit man and machine against the San Luis Valley’s soil.
The tractor pull is open to full sized and garden tractors, as well as kiddie pedal tractors and features pulling sleds, which add more weight until a tractor sputters and stalls or digs in and can pull no more. Many of the old tractors still pull their own weight.
It’s guaranteed fun for the whole family, with a barrel train and games for the kids, antique tractors on display and examples of antique farming equipment that show just how far agriculture has come since the 1920s and ‘30s.
Watch for the antique tractors in the Ski Hi Stampede parades July 27 and 28.
