SALIDA, Colo.—Monte Vista resident Maria Velasquez, 87, passed away June 24, 2014 at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, surrounded by her loving family.
Antonia was born on Sept. 16, 1926 in San Luis, Colorado, the daughter of Jose Sena and Juliana Valdez Sena. She was united in marriage to Alberto Jose Velasquez Sr., on Jan. 10, 1948. The two shared a long and happy union together. Antonia was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed going to the mountains, attending church, and the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Aguilar of Monte Vista; sons Joe A. (Dora) Velasquez of Montrose; C. John Velasquez of Alamosa; Raymond Velasquez of Monte Vista; Jack Velasquez of New York; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Delfina Sena of Monte Vista. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Antonia was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Juliana Sena, husband Alberto Jose Velasquez Sr., daughters Julianita Velasquez, Norma Jean Monteverde, sons Julian, Felix, Sam and Lucas Velasquez, grandchildren Mario and Isaiah Velasquez and one brother Felix Sena.
Cremation was chosen and services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
