MONTE VISTA—Ora Easter Mix, 96 passed away at Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa on Oct. 7, 2013. Ora was born in Karval, Colo. on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1917 to Edgar and Maude Barringer Welch.
Ora is survived by two sons Sherrel (Linda); and Gary (Beth) Mix; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Ora is preceded by the death of her husband Willard, one son Rodney, two sisters and two brothers-in-law.
Her family moved to the San Luis Valley where she attended and graduated from Center High School. After her marriage to Willard they farmed in
the Sargent community until they moved to their farm outside Center.
Ora, was an accomplished seamstress, loved to do needle work, and gardening. She received a master gardener award. Ora grew beautiful flowers along with her bountiful vegetable
garden. She was a very generous person and gave many vegetables and flowers to those who didn’t have gardens or were no longer able to work in their yards.
In her later years she became a passionate China Painter belonging to
The San Luis Valley China Painters. She loved to paint china and gave many of her
china paintings to others. Ora loved Christmas and always decorated her home and treated all visitors to wonderful platefuls of cookies and her famous candies. She took part in many activities at the Center United Methodist Church especially working at their annual church bazaar during the Christmas season and teaching Sunday school classes for many years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held Friday, Oct. 11 at the Monte Vista Cemetery Chapel at 10 a.m. Contributions may be made to the Center United Methodist Church in care of Strohmayer’s
