MONTE VISTA—Robert (Bob or Bobby) Dunn died Oct. 3 at his home in Monte Vista. He was born on January 27, 1940 in Brush, Colo. where he grew up with his parents and brother Stanley.
As a young man he worked in the feedlots in Brush, growing up as a cowboy. He fell in love with Ellen Hoxworth when she was a freshman in high school and went straight to her mother to ask her out. They were together ever since. They married on Dec. 11, 1960 while both he and Ellen were going to college. They raised three girls Kalli Marie, Courtney Kyndal and Whitney Carter while living in Greeley and later in Estes Park.
Bob was a schoolteacher for most of his life, teaching higher math, business and later became a librarian. He had a love for learning, loved to dance and had a zest for life.
While teaching and raising his family in Estes Park, he spent summers doing theater productions. He and Ellen had two businesses in Estes and became an integral part of the community. He loved to travel and took his family on long summer vacations all over the United States.
He studied the bible diligently and in 1972 dedicated his life to Jehovah as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained faithful his entire life.
He and his family moved to North Carolina for a few years before returning to southern Colorado. He was a librarian and yearbook instructor in Del Norte High School for many years before retiring due to bad health.
He was dedicated to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ellen Marie Dunn, his daughters and their husbands, Kalli Marie (David) Widger, Courtney Kyndal (Danny Mitchell) Dunn and Whitney Carter (Scott) Shaw along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was loved by all. We will miss him.
