ALAMOSA—Monte Vista resident Lena Chacon, 88, passed away Feb. 9, 2013, at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, with her loving family by her side.
Lena was born Nov. 11, 1924, the daughter of Andres Ruybal and Delidia Medina. Lena was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great –grandmother and friend.
She was a homemaker who totally enjoyed life, she enjoyed watching the Golden Girls, her novellas, listening to music, dancing, reading, poetry, making dolls, painting, gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting, sewing and having her loving family with her. She especially enjoyed spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with all of her family.
Lena is survived by three daughters; Laura (Eppie) Martinez of Lafayette, Colo.; Virginia “Cathy” (Tony) Mascarenas of Monte Vista; Juanita (Roger) Herrera of Monte Vista; three sons Michael (Martha) Chacon of Alamosa; Reno (Lorena) Chacon of Center; Jesse (Nancy) Chacon of Monte Vista; Lena has 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren, she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents Andres and Delidia Ruybal, her husband Felix Chacon, daughter Edna Mae Chacon, two granddaughters Wanda Montez and Marlene Herrera, grandson Jeremaih Chacon, seven sisters Leah, Lucy, Jean, Nora, Cora, Estrella, and Elva.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. also at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Interment will follow at the Workers Union Cemetery in Monte Vista. Arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
