ALAMOSA — Anna Virginia (Roetker, Slane) Denton, 92, long time resident of Hooper, Colo. died Nov. 18, 2012 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.
She was born May 29, 1920 in Caney, Kan., to Anthony John and Etta Bess (Rice) Roetker.
Anna grew up in the San Luis Valley and attended school in Center, Moffat and Hooper, Colo. She married Roy John Slane on Nov. 14, 1936. Roy preceded her in death in 1961. Five children were born to their union, Cleo M. (Kenneth) Powell of Monte Vista, Colo. Jimmy H. Slane of Hooper, Tom D. (Cindy) Slane of Victor, Colo. William “Bill” (Peggy) Slane of Cherryvale, Kan. and John W. (Tina) Slane of Hooper, Colo.
She was remarried to Charlie Denton who preceded her in death in 1985. Charlie was buried in the Uracca Cemetery.
Her daughter, Cleo; grandson, Donald Powell; and her son, Bill, preceded her in death.
She had four sisters and one brother. Her brother Merrette Roetker and sisters Ethal Roetker, Mildred (Ray) Clutter and Mary Marjorie (Sam) Wills preceded her in death
She is survived by one sister, Regina Cunningham of Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jimmy’s daughter Tandy Slane Ducette of Sanford, N.C., Tom’s children, Joe Slane of Hooper, and Loretta Slane (Fox) of Carpenter, Wyo., Bill’s children Steve Kelly of Kansas City, Kan., and Robert “Bobby” Slane of Cherryvale, Kan., and John’s children, Tuck Slane and Alisha Slane, of Hooper, Colo., two step-granddaughters, Tom and Cindy’s children, Carri and Danae of Colorado Springs. Anna had 10 great-grand children,: Tandy’s children, Melissa and Ryan; Joe’s children, Ryan, Brooke, Jake and Jessica; Loretta’s children, Kyle and Amethyst; and Bobby’s children, Caleb and Conner. Mamy nieces and nephews also survive.
Anna requested cremation with no funeral.
Her ashes will be buried beside her first husband, Roy, in the Monte Vista Cemetery
Arrangements were by Strohmayer`s Funeral Home, 205 S. Broadway, Monte Vista, Colo.
