MONTE VISTA — Marcella Rose McFarland, 74, of Monte Vista, died Oct. 23, 2012 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 31, 1938 in Alamosa, Colo. to Milburn and Josie Shields Horn.
Marcella was briefly involved in social work and was a graduate of Adams State College, where she earned a teaching degree. She taught and retired from the Del Norte School District.
A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed playing the piano, taking care of people, singing, spending time in the foothills and being with her family and friends.
Her parents, Milburn and Josie Horn; one sister, Laurene Neubauer and one brother, Steve Horn, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband Kenny McFarland of Monte Vista; one daughter, Rachel Salazar of Del Norte (Paul Espinoza of Monte Vista); one son, Caleb Salazar of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Danielle (Henry) Martinez of Monte Vista, Larissa Salazar, Jasmine Salazar, Josiah Espinoza- Salazar, Jesse Salazar-Espinoza, Naomi Salazar- Espinoza and Yakira Salazar- Espinoza, all of Del Norte, Kelby Salazar, Cali Salazar and Khalil Salazar all of Denver; one great-grandchild, Francesca Martinez and two more on the way, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Calvary Baptist Church located at 2160 Sherman Ave. in Monte Vista. Burial will be in the Monte Vista Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Monte Vista, which is entrusted with arrangements.
