MONTE VISTA — Longtime Monte Vista resident Lisa Suzann Martinez, 47, died June 20, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her loving companion and family.
Lisa was a very loving, caring and giving person. She did more for others than she did for herself and loved to be surrounded by her family and friends.
There wasn’t one time she wasn’t found in the kitchen cooking food for every and anyone, even if it was just two people. She’d cook for an “army.” She made the best homemade beans, tortillas, enchiladas, smothered burritos and Chinese food. She also loved to clean any chance she got. Her home was always welcoming to anyone. Music ran through her veins, whether it was Spanish or English. She loved everything about it. From cooking to cleaning, she always found time for herself. She loved to read books, watch Days of our Lives soap opera and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Her sister, Nancy Renee Sloan, and her grandmothers, Tila Trevizo and Tillie Martinez, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Angel (Jose) Allen Vargas of Denver, Ashlee (Bianca) Derbin of Monte Vista, Monique (Juan) Acosta of Monte Vista, Matthew (Rebecca) Martinez of Alamosa, Ross Martinez of Leadville and Jena Garcia of Monte Vista, her loving companion Amy Garcia; her siblings, Yvette Archuleta, Loreen Lobato, Gearlene West, Roddy Martinez, and Anthony Martinez; her mother, Nickie Martinez, her father Alfonso Martinez; and her grandchildren Damian Lucero, Giancarlo Vargas, Giselle Vargas, Juan Adrian Acosta and Evangaline Hope Martinez
A Vigil with Recitation of the Rosary was Sunday, June 24, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, both at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Cremation followed services through Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa, which was entrusted with arrangements.
