MONTE VISTA — Long-time Monte Vista resident Amalia Estrada, 85, died Jan. 21, 2010 at the Juniper Village Nursing Home in Monte Vista. She was born April 27, 1924 in Galisteo, N.M., to Julio and Juanita Lucero Montoya.

Amalia was a devoted Catholic and a hard worker. She enjoyed fishing, spending time in the mountains and with her loving nieces and nephews.

Her parents and five brothers, Eulogio, Filimon, Leo, Josito and Antonio Montoya, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Esmedira Montoya of Questa, N.M., along with several nieces and nephews.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary was held Sunday, Jan. 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Mass of the Resurrection was Monday, Jan, 25, at the same church. Burial was in Workers Union Cemetery at Monte Vista.

Arrangements were by Romero Funeral Home in Monte Vista.
