COLORADO SPRINGS — Harold S. (Hal) Howard, 87, died Oct. 13, 2009 in Colorado Springs.
He was born May 20, 1922 in Monte Vista to Alan and Jenny (Stroup).
Hal enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Aug. 1941 serving in the South Pacific until his discharge in October 1945 and was in the USAF reserves until 1959. He returned to Monte Vista and owned and operated the Valley Lanes bowling alley in Monte Vista until 1989 then retiring in Colorado Springs. Hal was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3228, loved to fly fish, read history and watch basketball from the high School games to the pros.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Howard, and sister, Madeline Morris.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ellen (Lamke) Howard of Colorado Springs; sister, Alice Chambers of Monte Vista; his children, Butch Trower of Denver, John (Sue) Howard of Gillette, Wyo., Hallie (Gordon) Schockey of La Junta, and Cindy (Patrick) Shane of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Shelly Trower, Paula (Moe) Armijo, Keith Howard, Kristen Howard, Bryan (Heidi) Schockey, Shawna (Steve) Frankmore, Cameron Shane, Conner Shane and Lyndsie Shane; great-grandchildren, Jazmin Armijo, Ely Armijo, Abigail Howard, Dennis Schockey, Christopher Schockey, Matthew Frankmore and Nathan Frankmore.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m., Oct. 23 in the Provider Chapel at Ft. Carson, Colo. Springs.
