LA GARITA — Donald Robert Hintz, 70, of La Garita, died unexpectedly on Oct. 9, 2009 at the family home.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1939 in Wausau, Wis. to Herman and Sylvia (Tesch) Hintz. He married Carol Jean Opichka on October 5, 1957 in Lovelock, Nev. She died July 21, 2001. He later married Dori Becker on Aug. 22, 2004.

A retired contractor, he loved hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time in the mountains, trapping, fishing and collecting antler sheds.

His father, Herman, his mother Sylvia and his wife of 43 years, Carol, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Dori; his children, Donald (Chris) of Del Norte, Michael (Lori) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Glenn (Ann) of Bancroft, Wis. and J.J. (Greg) Beiriger of Del Norte; two brothers, Bill (Joey) of Wausau, Wis. and Bruce (Joyce) of Mosinee, Wis; sisters Evie (Darrel) Wagner of Wausau, Janet (Joel) McClure of Phelps, Wis., Bonnie (DuWayne) Graveen of Wausau, Virginia Hintz of Wausau and Kathy (Ron) Speener of Antigo, Wis; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.      

The family chose cremation and a celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Strohmayer’s Funeral Home in Monte Vista.
