MONTE VISTA—The Sargent School Board asked Superintendent Steve Marantino to bring them recommendations to reduce the budget by approximately $240,000 per year after their January meeting.
In an interview later, Marantino said the budget concerns had began with deductions in school funding each year. According to the state’s education budgeting formulas the school has seen $650,000 less each year than they are supposed to receive. Marantino, and others, believe that amount was already too little, but now, they have difficult decisions to make to keep the school district financially sound.
