MONTE VISTA— Colorado Parks and Wildlife aquatic biologists are evaluating the effects of the summer fires in the Rio Grande National Forest on rivers and streams in the San Luis Valley. “So far we haven’t seen any fish die-offs, and we haven’t had reports of any,” Felt said. “And ash flows have not overwhelmed the water. We are concerned however, that eventually there could be large debris flows that could introduce more sediment to rivers and streams. That would likely occur after a big rain event and during the spring run-off next year.”For the complete article see the 09-05-2013 issue.
