Monte Vista employees honored

Posted: Friday, May 10th, 2013

MONTE VISTA—The Monte Vista City Council honored employees and heard reports during their regular meeting on Thursday, May 2.

Mayor Art Medina presented plaques to honor two Monte Vista employees. Edwardo Rodriguez, a Monte Vista police officer and Steve Earls, code enforcement officer both celebrated five years of employment with the city.

Rodriguez performs law enforcement duties to protect residents and property. He also serves as the intoxilyzer instructor, radar instructor, child safety seat inspector and commercial vehicle inspector.

Earls performs enforcement and administrative duties for the city, including animal control, weed abatement, traffic control, trash and snow removal, as well as abandoned and wrecked vehicles. He responds to complaints of stray animals, animal nuisances and reports of animal abuse or neglect.

Manager’s report

City Manager Don Van Wormer told the board that the Colorado Department of Transportation had settled on a bid for work to be completed downtown. The final bid came in at approximately 16 percent more than the original budget.

Ride the Rockies participants will come through in June, and CDOT representatives have decided that they will travel along with other vehicles through the construction area.

Van Wormer also told the board that the city has received comments from concerned residents about the rocks being used in the Montez Skate Park landscaping. They are worried that people may be injured if they fall on the rocks. Van Wormer said the city will try to “manage the edges,” on those rocks.
