Join in the fight against cancer
MONTE VISTA ó Has someone in your life been touched by cancer? Fight back with the Relay for Life.
On Friday, July 13, the American Cancer Society will host the Relay for Life at Cole Park in Alamosa, beginning at 7 p.m.
This overnight walk or run to help fight cancer is the signature event of the American Cancer Society.
SLVREC will sponsor a team open to all co-op members, employees and friends. The co-opís relay team has set a fundraising goal of $1,000.
You can help reach that goal by participating in three different ways: you can make a contribution; you can join and walk with the SLVREC team; or you can purchase a luminaria for the luminaria ceremony.
To participate, simply visit /www.tinyurl.com/slvrecrelayteam. If you would like to decorate your own bag for the luminaria ceremony, the easiest way is to stop by SLVREC to pick up a luminaria and fill out a form.
You need not be a registered participant in the Relay for Life to take part in this tribute.
For a minimum donation of $5 per bag, you can have a lighted luminaria included in the ceremony at Cole Park at 9:30 p.m. July 13.
This will be the second year that SLVREC has sponsored a team for the event. Cheryl Jones, SLVREC member services coordinator and Ray Martinez, journeyman lineman, helped to bring Relay for Life to the cooperative and will serve as the team captains.
SLVREC has provided electricity to the San Luis Valley since 1937. The company is member-owned and does not operate to earn a profit; rather, SLVREC serves members at cost and returns net revenues to members in the form of capital credits.
The cooperative can be reached at 852-3538 or 800-332-7634. Alternatively, member services can be contacted via email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The cooperative is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
