Skateboard Park planned, will be focus of Rally in the Valley
Posted: Wednesday, Jan 27th, 2010

MONTE VISTA — Bob Bryning spoke to the City Council on Thursday, asking for the city’s support for projects that the Monte Vista Community Fund supports, such as the Larry Trujillo fund and the Bill Metz Elementary Playground fund last year.

This year the focus will be on raising funds for a skateboard park.

Bryning said the funds from the first three Rallies in the Valley used to go to the Boys and Girls Club of the San Luis Valley and then the rally committee got them back have been restricted due to the past separation between the Boys and Girls Club and the Monte Vista Kids Connection.

“Right now, on paper, they’re the city’s money,” Bryning said.

Bryning said two businesses have asked them for financial statements.

He said city support would strengthen their position after raising money for a scholarship fund memorializing Larry Trujillo, providing an ongoing after school program and raising approximately $35,000 for Bill Metz Elementary School’s new playground equipment.

Council approved support of the organization and the transfer of funds.
