DEL NORTE — Ethan Duane Kroschel has announced that he will be running for Sheriff of Rio Grande County. He was born and raised in the San Luis Valley and comes from a long line of community leaders along the Rio Grande.
Kroschel has a long history in law enforcement which has taken him across the country serving the public in several capacities. His passion for serving his community has brought the native of Del Norte back to his roots to once again start working in the sheriff’s department where his career began 22 years ago.
“I am always looking for ways to do things better. You should never be satisfied with the status quo because we can always have a positive impact on each other and the community,” he said.
From his humble beginnings in law enforcement in the Rio Grande County dispatch center, Kroschel worked his way through law enforcement including special assignments in the drug task force with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and U.S Drug Enforcement. He served as the senior deputy sheriff in Delta County as well as being a National Rifle Association and Federal Bureau of Investigation certified firearms instructor.
Not only did he receive his law enforcement training at the state and local level, he was fortunate enough to train at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy in Glynco, Ga., and at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Quantico, Va. He also has advanced training and specializes in juvenile investigation, civil law, major crime scene investigation, dealing with hazardous material and arrest and search warrant preparation.
Ethan and his son, Nathan, live in Del Norte and are eager talk with community members and hear their concerns with the current department and are even more eager to get to work changing it.
Kroschel believes in a pro-active, not reactive, community orientated department where the department works side by side with the citizens they serve with lots of communication. He also wants to focus his attention on youth programs and building better relationships and resources with local schools. Once again opening up the communications between families and youth with the department.
