WOLF CREEK PASS-- A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Thursday and Friday for the West Fork Fire Complex located around Wolf Creek Pass.
Drier air has moved into the area and dry windy conditions are expected through Saturday.

Local man dies in plane crash on Medano Pass

SAND DUNES--Monte Vista pilot Richard Cutter, 69, died in a plane crash on Medano Pass at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve on Saturday morning, June 8.
Two passengers in the small plane were injured and evacuated to medical centers. Their names and conditions have not yet been released.

City council honors long-time employee

MONTE VISTA--The Monte Vista City Council honored the city clerk for years of service and heard reports at their June 6 meeting.
City Clerk Rhonda Valdez was recognized for her 20 years of service to Monte Vista. Her children were in the audience to see Valdez receive a plaque from Mayor Jose "Art" Medina.

Construction begins on Highway 160

MONTE VISTA -- The Colorado Department of Transportation has partnered with the City of Monte Vista to upgrade U.S. 160 (First Avenue) from west of Chico Camino Street to east of the railroad tracks, as well as make intersection improvements at U.S. 160 and U.S. 285.

Downtown project to begin June 10

MONTE VISTA--Concerned Monte Vista residents and business owners joined Concrete Works representatives at an informational meeting held on May 30.
LaSheita Sayer, serving as the public relations liaison for the project, began the meeting by saying they were there to explain when and how the company would take on the downtown paving and sidewalk project.
