MONTE VISTA -- In 1999 the Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust (RiGHT) was founded as the community‘s land trust, dedicated to serving the entire San Luis Valley. In 2007, RiGHT launched the Rio Grande Initiative, the landscape scale effort with many partners to protect land and water along the Rio Grande and its tributaries.

MONTE VISTA -- An early morning structure fire south of Monte Vista left two residents homeless.
Monte Vista Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said the house fire about nine miles south of Monte Vista was fully engulfed when his department was called out shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday.

MONTE VISTA--After a relatively dry winter, the first major snowstorm of the season for the San Luis Valley fell on the night of Thursday, Jan. 5. Temperatures fell to record lows and travel became difficult or impossible.
