Mattive announces candidacy

MONTE VISTA-- Monte Vista resident from the Sargent area Bob Mattive is announcing his candidacy for Colorado's House District 62.
Mattive has lived in the San Luis Valley since 1982 and has been a partner to the well-known Worley Family Farms. Mattive is vying for the Republican Party's nomination for the 2016 election.

Community learns about substance abuse

MONTE VISTA--A Family Outreach Conference held on Friday, Jan. 29 at Ski Hi Park helped educate the community on substance abuse. The event was sponsored by Valley-Wide Health Systems, Crossroads Turning Point, a generous private donation and the Saguache County Department of Social Services. The San Luis Valley Neonatal Substance Exposure Task Force hosted the conference.

Burglary suspect arrested after high- speed chase

ALAMOSA--A series of five business break-ins within a one-block area culminated in a high-speed chase to the outskirts of Monte Vista early Saturday morning, Jan. 16 and the eventual arrest of one suspect.

MONTE VISTA--Monte Vista Police Chief Jim Grayson addressed the city council on Thursday, Jan. 21 and explained that enforcing ordinance violations helps to improve the quality of life for citizens in the community. Grayson also reminded the council improving the community image was a goal they set to achieve in 2015.
